my family loves taking photos. traveling, eating, working, coffeeing, even sleeping, we love capturing moments. however, at the end of the day, all of the photos are scattered across albums, messaging apps, computer folders, and different places.
that gave my brother and me the inspiration to build homee.
it was our first time coding this project. before, we'd been used to creating webs and using web stacks, but react native and expo were completely new. despite that, we still jumped straight into building because we wanted to have something as cool and as fast as possible for our family to give it a shot.
in just 3 weeks, we finished our mvp. it was great, but a little buggy, so we spent the following 2 weeks refining the product and started the app store process. it was such a troublesome and tedious task, as waiting for every single build to finish only to realize that we ended up running into some other bugs that would take us hours to solve.
we submitted the app, and the app got approved to app store in our first run! yes, the very first submission! we've heard so many people having to resubmit 4-5 times, but we did it the first time.
what started as just a small side project for our family later gained some good attention from our friends and parents' friends, and we got to witness the power of word of mouth. in under 2 months, we got 200 users and 10,000 photos hosted on the platform, and that was out of our mind.
