wtf is newgen?

funny story.

my last name is nguyen. for years living in the states, i've had the chance to hear different variations of my last name.

"n-why-en", "ween", "queen", "nai-en", dotdotdot...

but, those aren't nothing compared to my high school basketball's coach version. the wildest version of all.

he called it "newgen".

being one of the first nguyen's studying at my high school, i had the impression that he was implying "new generation."

i thought that was dope! ngl being mentioned as a student who's from a new generation, omg, is dope af.

until another viet kid yelled at his face saying "coach that ain't newgen. that's nguyen".

for 3 months, i thought he was calling me cool.

but well, the name itself is actually cool to me, so i finally accepted it as another version of myself.

and that's the origin of duynewgen.
