i'm building a house

june 2025

as a business student, before, i honestly never saw the true intention behind having a personal website.

like...what would i use it for? showcasing projects, talking about my internships, flexing some awards? literally linkedin already existed.

but, it all changed when i knew about coding (or at least vibecoding).

for the first time in life, at the age of 19, i finally had the chance to truly understand the feeling of engineers and people committing their time, effort, and energy to building their online portfolio - something that communicates and captivates more than just the transactional values or purposes that could be shown on linkedin.

it's a safe space.

most platforms out there are designed for performance. you post something - some people like it, some people don't. the post gets judged immediately by algorithms and the number of likes, impressions, or some other invisible ranking system. over time, you change your writing style, starting to optimize for reaction rather than clarity.

a personal website doesn't have that pressure.

no one is forcing you to be concise. no one is pressing you to be impressive, and no one is giving you a hard time trying to make sense of things.

and that is fantastic.

building a personal website is like building a house. depending on your preferences, your house can be minimal or colorful, clustered or spacious, polished or unfinished, logical or strange.

this is what makes these houses so worth visiting.

and today, i'm thrilled to launch my house. my first ever coding project.

welcome to mi casa. welcome to duynewgen.
make yourself feel at home!
